Periodontal Disease

Periodontitis is a chronic condition characterized by progressive destruction of the tissues supporting your teeth in the jawbone. If left untreated, it can lead to teeth loss.

Periodontitis is influenced by multiple factors such as, poor oral hygiene, over-active or impaired immune system, smoking, certain systemic diseases like diabetes, hormonal changes (such as during pregnancy or menopause), certain medications, genetic predisposition, stress, poor nutrition, and grinding or clenching teeth.

Periodontitis starts as gingivitis, which is the inflammation of the gums. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis. Symptoms of periodontitis include swollen, red gums which bleed easily during brushing and flossing, receding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, and changes in the way teeth fit together when you bite.

Beyond its impact on oral health, ongoing research is substantiating the association between periodontal disease and various systemic conditions, including but not limited to heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, infection of prosthetic joints, pregnancy complications, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, as well as kidney, pancreatic, and blood cancers.

We will be happy to explain to you about periodontal disease and its implications to your oral and overall health, call us today for more information.

Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy (Deep Cleaning)

Non-surgical periodontal therapy, often referred to as deep cleaning is the initial phase treatment for periodontal disease. It involves anesthetizing (numbing) the treatment area and using specialized instruments to remove plaque and tartar deposits from the surfaces of your teeth, both above and below the gumline.

We will be happy to explain this procedure to you in detail, call us today for more information.

Surgical Periodontal Therapy

Surgical periodontal therapy is a second phase treatment approach used to manage advanced periodontal disease that cannot be adequately addressed with non-surgical methods alone. It involves various surgical procedures aimed at removing infected tissues and rebuilding areas of bone loss when possible.

We will be happy to explain the surgical periodontal therapy approach to you in detail, call us today for more information.

Gingival (Gum) Grafting

Gum grafting is a dental procedure aimed at repairing receding gums. When gums recede, they pull away from the teeth, exposing the roots. This can lead to sensitivity, decay, an unattractive smile and even tooth loss if left untreated.

Gum recession can be caused by various factors often linked to past trauma or infection in the area. Other contributing factors include poor oral hygiene, misalignment of teeth or implants, ongoing or previous orthodontic treatment, tobacco use, irregular bite and genetics.

It’s worth noting that around 80% of areas experiencing gum recession tend to worsen over time.

Overall, gum grafting can effectively restore your gum tissues and improve both the health and appearance of your smile.

Esthetic crown lengthening

Esthetic crown lengthening is a specialized surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the smile by harmonizing the proportions of the teeth and gums. It involves reshaping the gum tissue and sometimes the underlying bone to expose more of the tooth’s surface, particularly in cases where the teeth appear short or disproportionate due to excess gum tissue or an uneven gumline.

Esthetic crown lengthening can significantly improve the overall appearance of your smile by creating a more balanced and proportionate relationship between the teeth and gums.

It may be recommended for individuals with a “gummy smile” or teeth that appear short or disproportionate due to excess gum tissue.

We will be happy to explain periodontal crown lengthening to you in detail, call us today for more information.

Restorative crown lengthening

Restorative crown lengthening is a surgical procedure performed to expose more of the tooth’s surface area, specifically the crown portion, to facilitate the placement of restorations such as dental crowns or bridges. Restorative crown lengthening can help improve the esthetics and functionality of your teeth by creating an ideal foundation for dental restorations. It may be recommended in cases where there is insufficient tooth structure available for proper restoration placement, such as teeth with deep decay, fractures, or inadequate tooth exposure due to gum overgrowth.

My experience at True North Dentistry was amazing for multiple reasons. When looking at dentistries in the area, they seemed like the most reliable based off of their credentials online and the reviews. When coming in for the first time just before the new year, I was met with the same friendly and professional experience as other good reviews I read. Dr. Ali talked me through the process of my treatment plan and explained why I might be experiencing pain, he was very through and detailed in explaining during the first appointment. My first appointment with Dr. Hesam, he was very thorough with the cleaning and afterwards my teeth had never felt cleaner. Dr. Ali was very careful doing all of my fillings and he saved me from a potential root canal as I had a cavity close to my nerve and he did a great job avoiding exposing the nerve.
Maryam is always super friendly and does a great job assisting Dr. Ali and Dr. Hesam in multiple areas. It is always a friendly and positive interaction with her, and she is very fast responding and helpful when I booked all my appointments.
